Website Standards Committee
UC San Diego's Website Standards Committee is charged with ensuring all public-facing website content adheres to the university's guidelines for website standards.
The WSC plays a critical role in ensuring that UC San Diego's website presence is aligned with the university's mission and values, while also meeting legal and regulatory requirements.
By establishing and enforcing guidelines for web and video content production and posting, the committee helps to maintain a consistent and high-quality experience for all users interacting with UC San Diego web properties and associated content.

Activities to support responsibilities

Ensure public-facing, university-controlled websites are in compliance with WCAG standards.

Ensure video content on university-controlled distribution platforms complies with captioning and transcription requirements.

Regularly audit and catalog non-compliant websites within the university domain.

Provide remediation solutions or central CMS migration options to owners of non-compliant web properties.

Establish a notification and removal protocol for non-compliant web properties.

Consistently monitor centrally managed CMS templates and websites for compliance with up-to-date standards.

Develop and maintain web standards training programs for individuals responsible for web properties and content, and raise awareness of standards among those managing public-facing digital content.

Support the process for receiving, prioritizing, and resolving accessibility concerns from users, ensuring timely and effective solutions for university-controlled web properties and content.

Develop and maintain standards related to web-tracking software used for analytic purposes.

Collaborate with other committees and departments, such as the UC San Diego Digital Accessibility Council (DAC) — formerly the Electronic Accessibility Oversight Committee (EAOC), the UC San Diego Privacy Office, and University Communications, to maintain alignment with overarching university policies and initiatives.

Provide regular updates to relevant governance bodies regarding the status of guidelines and any associated issues or challenges.

Committee representatives are appointed by the leadership of their area. Unless otherwise noted, each area will be represented by one committee member.
Participation in committee meetings is open only to appointed committee members. The committee will consult campus personnel responsible for security, privacy, legal, and compliance as needed.
